Six arrested for series of retail store robberies around the DC region

Authorities have taken six suspects into custody, with five additional individuals potentially facing charges soon, linked to a string of retail thefts stretching back at least 18 months in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

According to Prince George’s County police, the six suspects are believed to have stolen over $500,000 worth of merchandise, with a large portion of the stolen goods being resold online or through private sales.

The suspects include Daryl Michael Jackson, 30, from Washington D.C.; Cyan Rocke, 25, from Capitol Heights, Maryland; Marco Morgan, 37, also from D.C.; Tia Courtney, 31, from Capitol Heights; Chyna Parker, 26, from Suitland, Maryland; and Quasaan Parker, 22, from Suitland.

Jackson, Rocke, and Morgan now face federal charges due to the nature of their alleged offenses.

Prince George’s County Police Chief George Nader stated on Tuesday, “This was their profession. They go out every day, visiting different merchants across various states to steal items that they later resell. Sometimes they even take specific orders for these goods.”

The thefts occurred in various locations across Maryland, D.C., Virginia, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, with a diverse array of stolen items ranging from clothing to electronics and hardware.

In response to the rising incidence of commercial theft, the police department established a dedicated task force earlier this year. While this isn’t their first major arrest, Chief Nader described it as one of the most significant successes to date.

He emphasized, “It is important to note that all individuals facing charges are not strangers to law enforcement. Most have had prior encounters with police, and their ongoing criminal activities underscore the necessity of investigations like this.”

Arrests were made at three different locations across the region. In addition to the apprehension of the suspects, law enforcement recovered a firearm and a substantial amount of illicit drugs, including crack cocaine, PCP, and fentanyl.

The authorities also recovered approximately $20,000 worth of stolen merchandise.

The classification of this operation as an organized enterprise is crucial, particularly with a recent change in state law. This allows law enforcement to pursue charges for crimes committed in other jurisdictions if it’s proven that they were orchestrated from Prince George’s County.

Chief Nader concluded by stating, “I hope this situation is addressed with the seriousness it deserves. We will not tolerate such actions in our state or in Prince George’s County. We are vigilant and committed to continuing our investigations to hold accountable those involved in organized retail theft.”
