Germantown voters prepare for 2026 governor’s election as Maryland election results unfold

Share

Marylanders are heading to the polls today to cast their votes for governor, with incumbent Wes Moore (D) aiming for a second term in office after his initial election in 2022.

Moore, who previously worked as a nonprofit leader and served in the U.S. Army, made history by winning the governor’s office without prior elected experience. As speculation mounts regarding his potential candidacy for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, he must first secure the support of Maryland voters.

While Maryland typically leans Democratic, the state’s political landscape has seen Republican Larry Hogan serve two terms as governor. This year, Republicans are determined to reclaim the governorship, with Dan Cox, a former state delegate and the GOP’s candidate in 2022, challenging Moore in what is effectively a rematch.

Polls will close at 8 p.m. EST, and residents are encouraged to make their voices heard.
