A 20-year-old man from Boyds has received a five-year prison sentence following a tragic car accident that resulted in a fatality. Brody Richardson was sentenced on October 30 in Montgomery County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to charges of grossly negligent manslaughter and homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

The incident took place on July 21, 2025, around 10:30 PM, when Richardson was driving a 2021 Mazda 3 at a speed of approximately 94 mph on Great Seneca Highway. He collided with a Subaru Forester driven by 71-year-old Mary Elizabeth Moody, who was attempting to turn left onto Mateny Road at the time of the crash. Sadly, Moody did not survive the impact.

Investigators determined that Richardson had a blood alcohol concentration of .20, which is more than double the legal limit. He admitted to consuming both alcohol and marijuana prior to driving. Surveillance footage and receipts indicated that he had consumed five beers at Travilah Beer & Wine in Rockville shortly before the accident.

In connection with this case, two employees from the beer and wine store, William Bolek and Richard Bolek, pleaded guilty to selling alcohol to a minor. Each received a two-year suspended prison sentence, along with three years of supervised probation and 200 hours of community service. They were also ordered to contribute $1,000 to charity and are prohibited from working in any establishment that sells alcohol while on probation.
