A tragic accident early Saturday morning claimed the life of a 21-year-old man from Silver Spring. Angel Canales was involved in a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Randolph Road and Bluhill Road shortly before 5 a.m. on October 31, according to Montgomery County Police.

Authorities report that Canales was driving a gray 1990 Honda Civic westbound on Randolph Road when he lost control of the vehicle. The circumstances surrounding the loss of control are still under investigation.

The Honda struck a curb, overturned, and collided with a utility pole, resulting in Canales being ejected from the car. Despite the immediate response from first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Additionally, a male passenger in the vehicle sustained serious injuries, though they are not life-threatening. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The crash caused significant disruptions, bringing down power lines and prompting authorities to close Randolph Road in both directions while emergency crews worked at the scene.

Police released Canales’ identity and further details about the incident on Monday, November 2. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the crash, and officials have indicated that the inquiry may take several weeks or even months to conclude.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to reach out to investigators at 240-773-6620.
