A Germantown family was forced out of their home early Monday morning after an electrical fire broke out at a local mobile home community during severe winter weather.
The incident happened around 3 a.m. on the 19500 block of Frederick Road at the Middlebrook Gardens Mobile Home Park. Fire crews were initially dispatched after reports of burning wires in the area. When Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responders arrived, they discovered the fire had spread from a power line into the walls of a nearby mobile home.
Firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the blaze before it spread further. Officials later determined the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical failure related to power line issues.
While no injuries were reported, the damage to the home is estimated at approximately $10,000, and one family has been displaced as a result.
The fire occurred as heavy snow moved through the Germantown area, which made conditions more challenging for both emergency crews and road workers clearing snow-covered streets.
Electrical Fires Increase During Severe Weather
Electrical fires like this can occur when power lines are stressed by snow, ice, or falling branches. Residents are encouraged to report downed wires immediately and avoid contact with any damaged electrical equipment.
