This March, Montgomery County Public Libraries is thrilled to commemorate the 10th anniversary of MoComCon, one of the county’s most beloved events dedicated to fandom culture.
MoComCon is a complimentary, two-day extravaganza celebrating comics, graphic novels, cosplay, and pop culture, featuring engaging programming for children, teens, and adults. The festivities will unfold at the Germantown Library and the nearby BlackRock Center for the Arts.
The celebration kicks off on Friday, March 20, 2026, with a special evening event for teens and adults at the BlackRock Center for the Arts from 6 PM to 8 PM. The fun continues on Saturday, March 21, with family-friendly activities at Germantown Library from 10 AM to 4 PM, followed by more events for teens and adults at BlackRock Center for the Arts from 11 AM to 5 PM. This year’s MoComCon will once again host its popular art and cosplay contests alongside various panels and activities.
The art contest will recognize first, second, and third place winners, along with honorable mentions across different age categories. Judging criteria will include creativity, originality, technical skill, visual impact, emotional engagement, and overall impression. Finalists and winners will be informed prior to MoComCon, and prizes can be collected at the winner’s chosen library location after Wednesday, April 10, 2026. The judges’ decisions will be final.
On Saturday, March 21, the cosplay contest will take place in person from 3 PM to 5 PM at the BlackRock Center for the Arts. Participants can enter in two age groups: teens aged 13-17 and adults 18 and older. No library card is required, but each individual is limited to one entry. Entry forms must be submitted in person at the MoComCon information table starting at 11 AM on the day of the event. Spaces are limited to the first 20 entries per age group.
Cosplay prizes will be awarded live in four categories for each age group: Best Presentation, Most Creative, Judge’s Choice, and Peer-to-Peer Award. Contestants must be present to win, and costumes should be suitable for a family-friendly environment, adhering to all library behavior guidelines.
Children aged 0-12 are also invited to join a cosplay parade before the contest. The parade will assemble at 2:30 PM in the Germantown Library’s ground-level meeting room and will conclude at the BlackRock main stage by 3:15 PM. Participation is limited to the first 30 children, and no judging will occur—names will not be announced. An adult must accompany each child participant.
MoComCon will showcase a variety of contributors and exhibitors, including DC Anime Club, Friends of the Library Montgomery County, Risucon, and Superhero Support, with more exhibitors to be announced as the event date approaches.
Additionally, curated graphic novel and nonfiction reading lists for children, teens, and adults will be available as part of the celebration. Stay tuned for more details and updates as the event draws near.
