As February comes to a close, the culinary landscape of Baltimore is buzzing with excitement. This week promises a lively mix of wine and spirits dinners, fundraising events, and much more. Here’s a glimpse of what’s on the agenda:
New Openings and Announcements
Silver Queen has recently unveiled a refreshed interior along with a curated, frequently changing menu that will continue to highlight casual and seasonal dishes.
Chef Spike Gjerde is embarking on exciting new projects. The visionary behind Woodberry Kitchen has plans for a new Italian market at Whitehall Mill and a tapas bar called Bar Dalà in Mt. Vernon. He also recently inaugurated La Jetée at Harbor Point.
The proprietors of The Black Olive have filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, although the restaurant remains operational. According to their representatives, the bankruptcy stems from a payment dispute with their bank regarding the property where The Black Olive is situated.
Celebrations for the Year of the Horse
The celebrations for the Year of the Horse are in full swing, with local eateries hosting events throughout the week.
The Corner Pantry has partnered with Spirit Shop to present a multi-course wine dinner that highlights Asian flavors. The evening will feature dishes like confit duck salad with charred satsuma, Szechuan peanuts, and ginger-peanut dressing, paired with exquisite wines from Austria and Washington state.
Nine-Tailed Fox is offering special cocktails and dishes inspired by Lunar New Year symbolism and flavors, available from now until March 3.
CIAA Tournament Festivities
The CIAA basketball tournament kicks off this week, starting Tuesday, February 24, with many local establishments scheduling activities and special promotions to welcome fans.
Food enthusiasts can get a head start on the tournament fun with the BORT (Black-Owned Restaurant Tour) launching on Saturday, February 21. Throughout the event, which runs until Sunday, March 1, Black-owned restaurants across Baltimore will welcome CIAA attendees with special meals and happy hour offers.
Participating spots include BAR V 2.0, SWILL, Rooted Rotisserie, Yeiboh Kitchen, Stem & Vine, BLK Swan, Blanco’s, Unity Bar & Restaurant, Werner’s, The Empanada Lady, Proper Cuisine, Cuples Tea House, Soul Kuisine, Nostalgia, Good Food, Waiting to Oxtail, Crust by Mack, and The Garden Rooftop.

Olive Garden Week
From Monday, February 23, to Saturday, February 28, The Dive Bar is reinstating its beloved Olive Garden Week. Get ready for those iconic breadsticks!
Cinghiale Wine Dinner
On Monday, Cinghiale will welcome Silvia Vannucci, the owner and winemaker from Piaggia in Carmignano, Tuscany, for a multi-course meal centered around traditional Tuscan flavors and Piaggia wines.
Sazerac Celebration at Cece’s
On Wednesday, February 25, Cece’s will honor the Sazerac with a three-course dinner, along with tastings and an enlightening discussion on the rich history of this classic cocktail. Join us for this unique experience.
Baltimore Spirits Co. x Foraged
Also on Wednesday, Foraged will host the team from Baltimore Spirits Co. for a four-course cocktail dinner featuring various local ingredients.
Africa in the Americas
Additionally, on Wednesday, Alma Cocina Latina will team up with Chef Scott Bacon of Magdalena for a special meal that celebrates the culinary contributions of the African diaspora. This family-style meal will showcase dishes reflecting the historical and migratory influences on cuisine.
Kentucky Nights Bourbon Tasting
Don’t miss out on Mt. Washington Tavern’s annual fundraiser for Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, Kentucky Nights, set to occur on Wednesday. This popular event features a wide range of bourbons to sample, along with food, live entertainment, and a special appearance by Ed Norris.
Brigance Brigade’s Signature Winter Soiree
On Friday, February 27, the Brigance Brigade, O.J. Brigance’s organization dedicated to supporting the ALS community, will host its annual winter soiree at Martin’s West. The event promises an evening of delicious food and enjoyable festivities, all for a noble cause.
