NEW DOCUMENTARY SCREENING: “The Beat Goes On: The Story of Baltimore Beat”

Wednesday, February 25 :: 6 PM
@ The Real News Network

Come join us for an in-person screening of “The Beat Goes On,” where you’ll explore the inspiring journey of Baltimore Beat!

6:00 PM – Doors Open

7 PM to 8:30 PM – Film Screening

8:30 PM to 9:30 PM – Q&A with Baltimore Beat and 6PM Productions

This exclusive event invites you to watch a documentary that tells the story of Editor-in-Chief Lisa Snowden and her team as they establish an inclusive news outlet for the city.

You are warmly invited to experience “The Beat Goes On: The Story of Baltimore Beat,” a film that delves into Baltimore’s rich history of Black journalism, the closure of the longstanding cultural beacon, Baltimore City Paper, and the ongoing fight for police accountability following the events of 2015 triggered by Freddie Gray’s death.

“Right now is the perfect moment for this conversation about journalism and storytelling,” Snowden stated. “We’re currently witnessing the fallout of when the news lacks inclusivity and fails to address the needs of the entire community. The Beat is part of a network of news organizations striving to create something better. I feel fortunate that our stories are being told in this manner.”

6pm Productions, led by director David Elliot, producer Dion Smith, and producer/artist Eze Jackson, has dedicated the past year to following the Beat’s journey and interviewing notable co-founders Snowden and Brandon Soderberg, along with staff members, local artists, seasoned journalists like Mark Steiner and Baynard Woods, and long-time police accountability advocate Tawanda Jones.

“We seized the chance to portray how the legacy of the Black press continues to influence journalists in Baltimore,” Elliot shared.

Following the screening, participate in a talkback session/Q&A with The Real News Network’s Editor In Chief Maximilian Alvarez to gain insights on the film’s production and perspectives on the current landscape of journalism in Baltimore and across the country.

High & Low, an exhibition by Amy Boone-McCreesh | Artist Talk + Lecture

Friday, February 27 :: 4:30-5:30 PM
@ MICA Pinkard Gallery

High & Low is an exhibition featuring the work of artist Amy Boone-McCreesh, created over the last four years. This exhibition examines the intricate hierarchies present in American material culture and how different objects and spaces convey their value, desirability, and status. Visual indicators of class and socioeconomic status manifest in everything from our clothing to our living environments. Boone-McCreesh’s creations use elements from these realms to challenge perceptions of taste and accessibility. Her work, at times humorous and at others earnest, employs bold and repetitive motifs to delve deeper into these themes.

Location: Pinkard Gallery (Bunting Center, Floor 1)
On Display: February 13 – March 11, 2026
Artist Talk & Lecture: Friday, February 27th from 4:30-5:30 PM in MICA Brown Center Lecture Hall 320
Reception: Friday, February 27th from 5:00-7:00 PM
