What we know:

Scott Smith, who has been the principal at Northwest High School since 2021, was removed from his position without any provided explanation regarding the circumstances or the duration of his leave.

The announcement was made by the Division of School Leadership and Improvement in a letter sent to families.

“I am writing to let you know that Mr. Scott Smith is currently on leave. At this time, assistant principal Mrs. Danielle Abdelsalam will serve as the acting principal. Under her leadership, we are confident that the operations of the school and instructional program will remain strong during Mr. Smith’s absence…We are committed to sharing more information regarding the length of Mr. Smith’s absence when available.”

On Wednesday morning, news crews observed officials removing boxes of documents from the school, but it remains unclear what the contents were or their intended destination.

This unexpected situation has left many in the school community seeking answers.

Students reported learning about the principal’s leave via an Instagram post, while parents have turned to online forums to discuss the matter.

Many parents and students declined to comment on camera, expressing frustration over the lack of information from the school district.

FOX 5 has reached out directly to Smith for comment, but has not received a response.
