Exciting news is brewing in Old Ellicott City as the signs proclaim “Coming Soon! Pizzeria|Bistro River House on Main” adorning the doors of the former Tersiguel’s restaurant. Located on Main Street, this beloved establishment closed its doors after a remarkable 50-year run in December 2025.
Nathan Sowers has taken the initiative to acquire the property, situated at 8293 Main St., following Tersiguel’s closure. Together with his spouse, Kimberly Kepnes, they are in the process of transforming the space to house the newest venture of their culinary enterprise, River House Pizza Co.
Sowers has deep-rooted ties to Tersiguel’s, having apprenticed there while fulfilling his role as a stay-at-home dad. His passion eventually led him to specialize in bread-making, particularly pizza, culminating in the establishment of River House Pizza Co.
In 2014, Sowers began his culinary journey independently from an area known as Lot D in Ellicott City, conveniently located near Little Market Café and other local shops. He later progressed to a larger venue along Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City.

Mark Hemmis, who manages The Phoenix on Upper Main directly across the street from the upcoming River House on Main, serves as treasurer for Ellicott City Partnership. He expresses enthusiasm for the new restaurant’s arrival, anticipating not only a high standard of cuisine but also impressive renovations.
“I have no idea what’s happening inside, but I know it’s going to be amazing,” Hemmis mentioned to Baltimore Fishbowl. “I’m thrilled to have them in town. This community needs more dining options, not fewer. A lively restaurant scene is beneficial for everyone, including other merchants and restaurants.”
While Hemmis is uncertain if Sowers intends to include two floors of dining like Tersiguel’s, he believes Sowers is eager to open the restaurant as soon as possible, all while ensuring that the renovations are carried out properly.
Baltimore Fishbowl has reached out to Sowers for further comments and will keep the community updated with any new information.
