1. Gaithersburg Book Festival

The Gaithersburg Book Festival, an annual free celebration of literature, is ranked among the premier literary festivals in the nation. Attendees can meet over 100 renowned best-selling and award-winning authors such as Fran Abrams, Sarah Adler, Rabih Alameddine, BB Alston, Randall Amster, and Dr. Stanley Andrisse. These writers will engage in presentations and panel discussions. Scheduled for Saturday, May 16, at Bohrer Park, the festival will also feature interactive writing workshops, a children’s village, book sales, author signings, and much more.

2. GreenFest

The Montgomery County GreenFest stands out as the largest annual environmental festival in the area. This festival draws individuals of all ages who come to celebrate, learn, and enhance their commitment to bettering the community and the environment. The event will take place at BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown on Saturday, April 25, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

3. Tour the Local Art Scene

Montgomery County’s art scene is thriving and showcases local artisans and creators. The Bethesda Fine Arts Festival, occurring on May 9-10, will feature exquisite artwork curated from over 120 of the country’s finest artists, alongside live entertainment and a variety of local dining options. This event will take place rain or shine. Additionally, visitors can immerse themselves in local art during the Countryside Artisans Studio Tour in April, where studios and galleries will open their doors for special tours. Another significant event is the VisArts’ Rockville Fine Arts Festival, set for May 2-3, which will feature an outdoor artisan market with over 130 participating artists.

4. Hometown Holiday Music Fest

During Memorial Day Weekend, gather to enjoy performances by local bands at the Hometown Holiday Music Fest. Settle in with chairs and blankets at one of the four stages located in Rockville Town Square, and take part in additional entertainment such as children’s activities, a beach area, and community organizations on-site.

Take a leisurely walk through more than 45 booths and stalls at the Downtown Silver Spring FRESHFARM Market. Alternatively, venture to the year-round Takoma Park Farmers’ Market every Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Laurel Avenue. The Bethesda Central Farm Market operates rain or shine and stands as one of the largest markets in the region, featuring over 100 vendors. Enjoy music, tastings from local Maryland wineries and farm breweries, activities for kids, chef demonstrations, and more. In Olney, visit the Olney Farmers and Artists Market, open every Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, which aims to provide fresh, locally grown produce and a space for families and friends to gather.

6. Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park

Explore the rich history of Oakley Cabin and its past residents with a complimentary guided tour. On the second and fourth Saturdays from April to October, between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm, head to Brookeville to listen to captivating stories about the cultural and traditional aspects of the area while examining features ranging from the open hearth to artifacts unearthed during archaeological digs.
