Why Arriving 4 Hours Early is the Perfect Strategy for BWI Marshall Airport Travelers

Share

At BWI Marshall Airport, travelers are advised to arrive four hours prior to their flights to ensure a smoother experience.

Airport officials have announced that individuals flying out of BWI Marshall over the weekend should plan for additional wait times due to “significant delays” at security checkpoints.

The alert highlighted that “Travelers most impacted are those departing from Concourses A, B, and C.” The notice emphasized that the current wait times at these checkpoints are unprecedented compared to what has been observed in the past.

Checkpoints D and E are also experiencing delays, albeit to a lesser extent.

To assist travelers during this busy period, airport and airline personnel are readily available to help navigate the security process.

This situation arises amid nationwide airport challenges, including at BWI Marshall, Dulles International, and Reagan National airports, which are facing significant delays due in part to staffing shortages at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

During the ongoing partial government shutdown, TSA agents have been working without pay, leading many to choose not to report for duty. These same workers recently navigated the stress of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history last fall.

In response, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday to ensure TSA employees receive compensation, following his earlier decision to deploy U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to help alleviate delays at airport checkpoints.

According to a memo from the AP, Trump stated, “America’s air travel system has reached its breaking point. I have determined that these circumstances constitute an emergency situation compromising the Nation’s security.”

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin indicated that TSA workers could see paychecks as soon as Monday.
