NASA astronaut Chris Williams, along with two Russian cosmonauts, successfully returned to Earth on Sunday, landing aboard a Soyuz capsule in Kazakhstan.

After an impressive eight months in space and covering over 102 million miles, NASA astronaut Chris Williams is back on solid ground.
On Sunday, Williams and his fellow crew members, two Russian cosmonauts, made their landing in a Soyuz capsule nestled within Kazakhstan’s vast landscape.
The crew spent a total of 241 days orbiting Earth, successfully completing over 3,800 trips around the planet and logging more than 100 million miles collectively.

Originally from New York City, Williams has come to regard Potomac as his home. He is a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring and pursued further studies in physics at Stanford University, subsequently earning a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Before being selected by NASA as an astronaut in 2021, Williams had an extensive career as a researcher, focusing on advancements in imaging and radiation therapies for cancer patients.
During his inaugural mission to space, Williams was involved in various scientific studies that included cancer treatment research, semiconductor manufacturing, and enhancing spacecraft water systems. Additionally, he completed two spacewalks, contributing to the operation of the station’s robotic arm and solar power infrastructure.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Williams is an Eagle Scout, a licensed private pilot, and has previously served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT.
