Share

Germantown, MD — Montgomery County police have identified the man killed in a pedestrian collision that occurred on the morning of August 20, 2025, and the investigation continues as authorities work to understand the circumstances around the crash.

According to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), officers and fire rescue personnel responded around 7:35 a.m. to the intersection of Frederick Road (MD‑355) and Ridge Road for a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a southbound vehicle.

Police have identified the victim as 34‑year‑old Branden Corey Williams. Investigators say Williams was attempting to cross Frederick Road when he was struck by a black 2022 Toyota Corolla. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In February 2026, MCPD announced that 27‑year‑old Dione Jordan of Frederick was charged with manslaughter by vehicle involving gross negligence in connection with the crash. According to the criminal charging documents, evidence indicates the driver was traveling at about 70 mph in a 45‑mph zone when approaching the intersection and accelerated through a yellow traffic signal before the collision. Jordan was released on bond pending further court proceedings.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at (240) 773‑6620.

Fatal pedestrian collisions are a serious concern in Montgomery County and across Maryland. According to state and local safety data, pedestrian crashes account for a notable portion of traffic fatalities, and speed plays a significant role in the severity of outcomes: at 40 mph, a pedestrian hit by a vehicle is about eight times more likely to die than one struck at 20 mph.

Local initiatives like Vision Zero aim to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries by improving street design, enforcement, and public awareness. The county has developed a multi‑year action plan focused on safer crossings, traffic calming, and outreach.

Safety Tips for Pedestrians

  • Always cross at marked crosswalks or intersections when possible.
  • Obey pedestrian signals and watch for turning vehicles.
  • Wear bright or reflective clothing, especially at dawn, dusk, or night.

Safety Tips for Drivers

  • Slow down in residential and high‑pedestrian areas — small speed changes dramatically affect survival odds.
  • Stop for pedestrians in crosswalks and be especially vigilant around intersections.
  • Avoid distractions and watch for cyclists and walkers you might not initially see.

Failing to yield or reducing speed even slightly can significantly improve safety for all road users.
