Two Salisbury Teens Charged with Murder in Deadly Princess Anne Shooting

Maryland State Police have apprehended and charged two teenagers from Salisbury concerning a deadly shooting that occurred on Monday in Somerset County.

A 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy are facing multiple charges, including first-degree felony murder, second-degree murder, and robbery linked to the incident. As they are both minors, their identities have not been disclosed. As of Tuesday afternoon, their attorneys had not been listed in the Maryland court system.

According to Maryland law, the charge of first-degree felony murder is applicable when a death arises during the commission of specific crimes, like robbery, irrespective of the suspect’s intent to cause harm. Law enforcement officials indicated that further arrests are anticipated as the investigation progresses.

Case Details

Law enforcement personnel from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police responded around 2 p.m. on Monday to the 11000 block of Dryden Lane in Princess Anne following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, authorities discovered two men inside a 2026 Kia Seltos SUV parked on the road, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, identified as Derrick Knox, 46, from Salisbury, was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact cause and manner of death will be determined pending an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The second victim, Kevin Pillar, 41, also from Salisbury, was airlifted by Maryland State Police Aviation Command to a trauma center for emergency treatment. As of Tuesday afternoon, he remains in critical condition.

Authorities reported that the girl was apprehended without incident shortly after the shooting near the intersection of Stewart Neck Road and Beckford Road. She was processed at the Maryland State Police barrack in Princess Anne and subsequently transferred to the Somerset County Detention Center, where she is being held without bail.

The boy was also arrested without incident at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday at a home in Salisbury. He was taken to the Maryland State Police barrack in Salisbury for processing.

Officials from the State Police announced on Tuesday that a motive for the crime has not yet been established.

The investigation is being led by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, with support from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, the State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.
