TOWSON, Md. — The men’s lacrosse team at Towson University is gearing up for a remarkable season, aiming for a historic third consecutive Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship.

Over the past two years, the Tigers have been a powerful force in conference play, claiming two CAA titles without suffering a single defeat. Head coach Sean Natalin and his dedicated team are now setting their sights on achieving an extraordinary three-peat.

“Achieving this would be an incredible milestone for our team, and we approach each season as a unique journey. It would mean a lot,” said Natalin.

However, the challenge for the Tigers is significant, as they are facing considerable changes to their roster as the new season begins. Towson will be replacing 13 graduating seniors, including four of their six defensive starters. This situation presents both exciting opportunities and notable challenges for the program.

“While experience is invaluable, we are losing a lot of it with last year’s graduating class,” Natalin noted. “The players stepping into these roles will need to adapt, understanding that their performance might not always be flawless. It’s important we stay committed to learning through this transition.”

The team will be looking to its two captains for guidance as they navigate these changes. Senior short stick defensive midfielder Joseph Meidling is set to lead a youthful defense.

“This is certainly a significant goal for us; however, we remain focused on the process,” Meidling explained. “The chemistry we share is essential. We are incredibly close both on and off the field. We dedicated a lot of time to hard work during the fall, and while many of the newcomers might not have extensive playing time, I believe the strong bond and effort we’ve put in during the preseason will yield positive results as the season unfolds.”

The other captain, redshirt junior Ryan Schreyer, offers a unique dimension to the squad. He represents a group of players all hailing from Anne Arundel County.

“It’s pretty fantastic to all come from the same area, having played against each other in high school and middle school,” Schreyer remarked. “Teaming up again with Mikey, who was my high school teammate, is exciting. We faced off against Wak many times while playing for Severna Park, so it’s great to reconnect in this setting.”

Even with the roster changes, the Tigers are committed to maintaining their process-oriented mindset.

“If we keep our focus on the fundamentals, we will achieve great success this year,” Schreyer stated confidently.

Towson will get the chance to test their preparation with a scrimmage against Salisbury this coming Sunday, before officially kicking off their regular season at home on February 1st at noon against North Carolina.
