Share

Leonard Joel Selfon, Esq., a resident of Germantown, Maryland, tragically passed away on January 13, 2026, at the age of 67. He was a dedicated son, brother, and a respected attorney who tirelessly advocated for veterans and individuals with disabilities. Len leaves behind a remarkable legacy characterized by integrity, compassion, and thoughtfulness.

Len was a long-time Maryland resident who attended the University of Maryland, where he was a drummer in the marching band. He later transitioned from music to law, graduating from the University of Baltimore Law School in 1985.

At the time of his passing, Len served as the General Counsel for the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) in Washington, DC. In this role, he was the chief legal officer and a key member of the senior management team. Len joined PVA in July 2010 as Associate General Counsel and became General Counsel in 2013. He managed all legal affairs for PVA and provided invaluable guidance to the organization, earning the respect and friendship of his colleagues.

Len maintained strong connections within the veterans community. Beyond his work with PVA, he was passionately involved with The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program, serving on its Executive Board for many years as both Director and Board Secretary. He also contributed to the Audit and Finance Committee.

Len dedicated nearly his entire career to advocating for veterans. Before joining PVA, he held positions as Senior Vice President for United Spinal Association and VetsFirst, and as Director of the Veterans Benefits Program for Vietnam Veterans of America. Earlier in his career, he worked as a senior appellate attorney in the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Office of the General Counsel. Throughout his career, Len testified before Congress, engaged in impactful litigation, and provided training in veterans law across the country.

Len was devoted to his family and friends, always generous with his time and quick with a joke. He had a love for animals, music, and the history of the space program, and he was a man of deep faith. He is survived by his brother, Eric Selfon, along with many friends who will remember him for his sharp wit, wise counsel, and kindness.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Judean Memorial Gardens, located at 16225 Batchellors Forest Road, Olney, Maryland 20832. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America or the Feline Foundation of Greater Washington. The services are entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
