Real Housewives of Potomac Star Opens Up About Jail Time in Exclusive First Interview

POTOMAC, MD — Karen Huger, a well-known figure from Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Potomac,” shared her experiences from a six-month stay at the Montgomery County Detention Center in Boyds due to a drunk driving incident, as reported by The Banner.

During her interview with host Andy Cohen, Huger revealed her decision to engage with the general population of the detention center rather than remain isolated. She expressed a desire to support her fellow inmates, stating, “They did a wonderful job trying to keep me out of general population. And I told them, ‘Look, if God has me in here, I’ve got to learn a lesson. So put me in general population.’ I felt that there was a need there to help the others that were in there. Because there were children there that were my children’s age.”

As she offered support and guidance to her fellow inmates, Huger noted that “the girls” reciprocated by helping her with her hair, according to The Banner.

This revealing interview was featured in the Season 10 finale of RHOP. Huger was absent from the latest season due to her incarceration.

Initially sentenced to two years for driving under the influence, Huger had one year of her sentence suspended and was ultimately released in September 2025, just six months into her term.

The incident occurred on March 19, 2024, when Huger was driving a 2017 Maserati that veered across a median and collided with traffic signs at the intersection of Oaklyn Drive and Beman Woods Way in Potomac, as detailed by WTOP. Fortunately, she did not sustain serious injuries.

In late December 2024, she was found guilty of DUI, negligent driving, failing to control speed to prevent a collision, and not notifying authorities of an address change. However, she was acquitted of reckless driving charges, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Often referred to as the Grande Dame of Potomac, Huger entered a treatment facility in January to address issues related to “taking antidepressants and drinking,” as revealed in a brief video message shared with her castmates, according to The New York Times.
