MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Chase William Mulligan, a 28-year-old resident of Silver Spring, has been sentenced to 50 years in federal prison for his role in coercing over 100 young girls into sending him sexually explicit images and videos.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland announced that Mulligan was convicted on two counts related to the production of child sexual abuse materials. Alongside his prison sentence, he will also undergo 25 years of supervised release.
Mulligan entered a guilty plea to both charges in May as part of a plea agreement, which mandates that he register as a sex offender.
From 2019 to 2023, investigators found that he coerced at least 108 girls into sharing explicit content, often threatening to make the images public if they attempted to withdraw their consent.
Authorities revealed that Mulligan’s victims were not limited to those residing in the United States; many were located in countries such as the U.K., Australia, Spain, Canada, Denmark, and the Philippines.
“Chase Mulligan is a depraved and dangerous predator. He exploited social media to target, threaten, and abuse over 100 minors—some as young as five years old,” stated William DelBagno, the special agent in charge of the FBI, in a release regarding the plea agreement.
“His despicable actions are not lessened by the fact that he was thousands of miles away and never physically met his victims; in fact, it intensifies the threat he poses to any child he can reach online.”
The case involving the 5-year-old girl referenced by DelBagno is linked to an incident in Tennessee, where Mulligan coerced two 15-year-old friends into sending him videos via Snapchat.
This case is part of the nationwide Project Safe Childhood initiative, which was launched by the Justice Department in 2006 to combat child exploitation.
