Massive Verizon Outage Hits Maryland: What You Need to Know

Share

Verizon customers in various regions of Maryland are facing interruptions in their wireless voice and data services this Wednesday afternoon. As reported by Downdetector, a platform that tracks user-reported outages, the Washington, D.C. metro area is among the most affected by this disruption.

In response to the situation, Verizon publicly acknowledged the service issues on Wednesday afternoon, sharing a statement on X.

“We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers,” the company stated on the social media platform.

The company confirmed that its engineering teams are actively working to resolve the issue.

In Maryland, the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management noted that the outage might lead to disruptions in essential services, including calls to the county’s 911 system.

“Montgomery County is actively coordinating with wireless providers to expedite the resolution of this issue,” the agency stated.

The Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management is also keeping a close watch on the outage.

“As a result, some devices may display ‘No Signal’ or ‘SOS’ mode. The outage seems to be sporadic across the country rather than localized,” officials from Anne Arundel County explained.
Currently, Verizon has not provided an estimated time for service restoration. Emergency calls to 911 should still function as expected.”

Baltimore City officials are also aware of the situation but have not confirmed whether it is impacting emergency communications.

“If you are unable to reach emergency services using a Verizon device, please use another carrier, a landline, or visit a nearby police station or fire department,” officials advised.

Significant outages have also been reported in other U.S. cities, including Philadelphia, New York City, Miami, and Atlanta.

In a follow-up tweet, Verizon reassured customers: “Verizon engineering teams are continuing to address today’s service interruptions. Our teams remain fully deployed and are focused on the issue. We understand the impact this has on your day and are committed to resolving this as quickly as possible.”
