Marylanders Stock Up on Groceries as Powerful Snowstorm Approaches

Share

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. — As the weekend snowstorm approaches, Friday marked the last chance for residents to gather their groceries, beverages, and essential supplies.

Though filming inside the Giant store in Towson wasn’t possible, Patrick Paquette provided a vivid description of the atmosphere, which he summed up in a single word.

“Chaos,” Paquette remarked. “It’s just wild. Everyone is pushing through the aisles. There aren’t too many cheerful faces in there.”

Even with the fray, he left the store without everything he intended to purchase.

“I’m looking for some cranberry juice, but that’s gone,” lamented one shopper.

Lacy Talbott echoed similar sentiments about the hectic atmosphere.

“There are so many people, the lines extend far down the aisles, and the parking lots are way busier than normal,” Talbott mentioned.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to find all the items on her list either.

“I was hoping to get ingredients for soup—thought it would be perfect for the weather. I went to grab milk, but they’re almost completely out of it. The shelves are bare!”

Contrasting her experience, the scene at Eddies in Roland Park was relatively more organized, with fuller shelves.

Shoppers like Samantha Williamson had better luck finding their necessities.

“So far, so good. I’d seen pictures of long lines, which made me anxious that everything would be gone, but it’s been alright,” Williamson shared.

Store management informed WMAR-2 News that they had sold out of pre-prepared meals on Thursday, but the kitchen had quickly worked to restock for Friday.

Williamson mentioned her primary concern regarding the upcoming weather.

“I’m most worried about losing power. With small kids and our new pet turtle that needs to stay warm, I’m stressed about keeping it cozy,” she explained.

Having lived through Maryland winters, she advised a practical tip: pay attention to parking location.

“Back in ’08, I was in medical school and had my car stuck in Canton for about a week because the snow pushed against all the parked vehicles. So that’s something to be cautious about,” she warned.

Management at Eddies also mentioned that a truck would arrive on Saturday to restock essential supplies.
