A Maryland father is now on a challenging journey of raising his two young sons after the sudden passing of his wife due to an aneurysm.
Jay Duong, from Silver Spring, faced an unimaginable loss when his 39-year-old wife passed away unexpectedly in her sleep, leaving him to care for their children and her mother.
“Recently, Jay’s beloved wife passed away unexpectedly from an aneurysm in her sleep, leaving him, their two sons, and her mother heartbroken and struggling to adjust to this sudden loss,” shared Mytu and Tony Nguyen, long-time friends of the family.
“He has always been a pillar of support for his friends and family, and now he is confronted with one of the toughest challenges of his life.”
This tragic event has made Duong the sole provider for his family, including one son who is autistic and needs additional care and support.
“The emotional and financial strain from funeral expenses, combined with the ongoing costs of daily living, has been overwhelming,” stated the organizers of a fundraiser established for Duong.
As of Tuesday, March 3, over $23,800 had been raised towards a goal of $28,000 through nearly 100 donations.
The community is feeling the impact of this loss deeply.
“May was my friend and a wonderful person,” wrote Carol Salzano. “I can’t believe how quickly eight years of friendship can feel. She was only 39. We thought we had more time. Now her husband is left to raise their two boys alone. This is heartbreaking.”
Another supporter added: “Jay Duong has been a close friend of mine since high school—over 20 years filled with memories, laughter, and support.”
Organizers aim to alleviate the financial burden of funeral costs, allowing Duong to focus on caring for his sons during this incredibly tough time.
“Any support you can provide—whether through a donation or simply sharing this fundraiser—will significantly impact Jay and his family,” the campaign states.
“Your kindness will enable Jay to concentrate on healing and nurturing his sons as they navigate this new chapter in their lives.”
