Germantown Grandfather Wins $100K in Maryland Lottery After Playing Grandchildren’s Numbers

Share

A Germantown grandfather is celebrating a six-figure Maryland Lottery win after matching numbers on two tickets in the same drawing, turning a routine lottery purchase into a $100,060 payday.

According to the Maryland Lottery, the Montgomery County resident claimed the prize on March 3 at lottery headquarters in Baltimore after discovering both of his Bonus Match 5 tickets matched the winning numbers in the same drawing.

How the Germantown Lottery Win Happened

The longtime lottery player purchased multiple combinations for the Bonus Match 5 game and ended up hitting two $50,000 prizes on the same number combination. Additional smaller matches added another $60, bringing the total payout to $100,060.

The winner told lottery officials that he regularly chooses numbers connected to family milestones. For this drawing, he used numbers related to his grandchildren, including his granddaughter’s birthdate and birth weight.

The lucky tickets were purchased at the Town Center Sunoco gas station on Germantown Road.

Retailers that sell winning Maryland Lottery tickets receive a bonus, and the Germantown station will collect a $500 retailer reward for selling the winning ticket.

Not His First Lottery Win

Interestingly, the Germantown resident is no stranger to lottery luck. Officials say he previously won $50,000 playing Bonus Match 5 back in 2016, making this his second major prize from the game.

The retired insurance adjuster said he realized he had won while checking the tickets at home and quickly shared the news with his wife and daughter.

Lottery Wins Continue Across Montgomery County

Lottery prizes continue to pop up across Montgomery County, with players frequently winning through games like Bonus Match 5, scratch-offs, and Cash4Life. While most players never hit big, occasional wins like this one keep hopeful players returning to local retailers throughout the county.

For this Germantown grandfather, a set of numbers tied to family memories turned into a $100,000 surprise.
