If you’ve stopped by Fresh Baguette in Germantown for a croissant or fresh loaf of bread lately, there’s something new happening above the bakery that you probably can’t see.
The local French bakery and café has added a rooftop solar energy system to its Germantown bakery and production facility, a project that company leaders say reflects their commitment to sustainability and the local community.
The new system includes 388 solar panels capable of generating about 275 megawatt-hours of electricity each year, helping reduce the building’s dependence on traditional energy sources.
Fresh Baguette founder Florent De Felcourt said the investment is about more than lowering energy costs.
“We are excited to be operating in a building that reflects our values around quality, innovation, and responsibility. This solar project creates a more sustainable space for our team, our customers, and our community.”
The solar installation was funded by the property’s owner, Sun Peak Partners, which has been investing in cleaner energy solutions for its commercial buildings.
Commercial real estate can and must play an important role in building a healthier future,” said Alexander Lofft of Sun Peak Partners. Casey Crafton of Sun Peak added that working with businesses like Fresh Baguette makes sustainability projects even more meaningful.
The project was designed and installed by local contractor Catoctin View Engineering & Technical Services (CVET), which managed everything from engineering and permitting to installation and final certification.
Known for its authentic French breads, pastries, sandwiches, and café atmosphere, Fresh Baguette has become a favorite stop for many Germantown residents since opening its location. The new solar system is another example of the bakery investing not only in its business but also in reducing its environmental footprint.
