TOWSON, Md. — The Towson University Marching Band has received an exciting invitation to perform at the 101st Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, scheduled for Thanksgiving Day in 2027.
The band members were informed of this prestigious opportunity following their Homecoming performance at Johnny Unitas Stadium on October 31. They will proudly represent both Towson University and the state of Maryland during the iconic parade.
This will mark the band’s first return to the Macy’s parade since their last appearance in 2009, a performance that helped solidify their reputation as a “World-Famous” ensemble. During that memorable event, the band entertained millions gathered in the streets of New York City as well as those watching from home.
“This is an extraordinary achievement for our students, directors, and the entire Towson University community,” stated Mark Ginsberg, the President of Towson University. “Being selected for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a testament to years of dedication, artistic excellence, and hard work. We are thrilled for our band members to showcase their talent on such a celebrated national stage.”
Macy’s selects only a small number of marching bands from a wide range of applicants nationwide each year, making Towson’s selection from hundreds particularly noteworthy.
The marching band stands as one of Towson’s largest and most recognized student organizations, boasting over 225 members who represent a variety of academic disciplines across the university. In addition to their performances at football games, the band is also involved in regional and national events.
“This opportunity represents the culmination of years of commitment from our students, staff, and the marching band community,” remarked Taylor Yozwiak, the director of athletic bands. “Receiving an invitation back to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is not only an incredible honor but also a reflection of the passion and talent demonstrated by our band members. We are eager to represent Towson University and exhibit our unique performance style to audiences across the nation.”
As preparations for this exciting trip get underway, the band must begin fundraising efforts to cover essential costs such as travel, lodging, and meals. Towson University is reaching out to alumni, families, and supporters of the arts to contribute so that every member of the band has the opportunity to participate.
