The auction of equipment from the former Shoppers grocery store on Mateny Road in Germantown is set to take place, nearly a year after the store closed its doors for good.
According to the auction details, nearly all of the store’s equipment will be available for bidding, including refrigerated and frozen food cases, walk-in coolers and freezers, as well as meat and deli equipment. Additionally, bakery ovens, checkout lanes, self-checkout machines, shelving, and various other fixtures used throughout the supermarket will be included.
The auction company notes that this Shoppers location served the Germantown community for almost 30 years before its closure. Bidding will commence on Tuesday, November 17, at 10 a.m., with items closing one at a time.
Among the items up for auction are over 90 Zero Zone frozen food doors, refrigerated cases from Hussmann and Hillphoenix, floral coolers, a salad bar, and deli service cases. The auction will also feature seven compressor racks that powered the store’s refrigeration system, along with several large walk-in units, including a four-room refrigerated box and a 46-foot beer cooler.
Equipment from various departments within the store will also be sold. The meat department’s offerings include Hobart equipment such as an automatic wrapper, mixer-grinder, meat saw, and wrapping stations. The hot foods section features two double-stack rotisserie ovens and a TurboChef rapid-cook oven, while the bakery department includes two Baxter roll-in rack ovens, proofers, and a 250-quart Hobart spiral mixer.
Additionally, the auction includes items from the front end of the supermarket, such as Killion checkout lanes, four NCR self-checkout stations, and NCR scanners. Other available lots include electric shopping carts, a pallet jack, pallet racking, gondola shelving, a natural gas generator, and a cardboard baler.
Shoppers closed this Germantown location in November 2025 after decades of service to the area. In October 2025, employees were notified of the impending closure in a letter from the company. Shoppers cited a “careful evaluation of store performance and operational standards” as the reason for the decision, with the last day of work for employees scheduled for on or before November 15, 2025. The company expressed gratitude to its employees for their years of service and mentioned that human resources and union representatives would support affected workers during the transition.
Currently, there is no information on a new tenant taking over the former Shoppers space. For those interested, the full auction details can be viewed here.
