WALDORF — A tragic incident occurred on Thursday night, resulting in the death of a 36-year-old man from Bryans Road. According to Maryland State Police, his motorcycle collided with a car that was turning off Maryland Route 228 near Waldorf.

The victim was identified as Michael Alexander Jr., who was riding a Suzuki motorcycle. Maryland State Police troopers from the La Plata Barrack responded to the scene on MD 228 at Greenwood Drive at 10:34 p.m. on October 29, according to a news release from state police.

Initial investigations revealed that Michael was traveling westbound on MD 228 when a Ford Taurus, which was traveling in the opposite direction, attempted to turn left from eastbound MD 228 onto Greenwood Drive. Unfortunately, the motorcycle collided with the Ford, which subsequently veered onto Greenwood Drive, crashing into a Toyota Highlander parked in a residential driveway and then into a house, police reported.

The driver of the Ford Taurus was transported to a local hospital via ambulance, but authorities have not disclosed their name, age, or current condition. Additionally, it remains unclear whether anyone in the house sustained injuries during the accident.

According to state police, excessive speed is believed to have played a role in the crash. The investigation, which is being led by the Maryland State Police Crash Team, is still ongoing. Police have not indicated whether charges might be filed in connection to this incident.

During the response, lanes on MD 228 were shut down for over two hours while troopers conducted their investigation. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputies and the State Highway Administration also provided assistance at the scene.

Third Deadly Motorcycle Crash on MD 228 This Year

This incident marks the third fatal motorcycle accident reported on MD 228—locally known as Berry Road—this year, as noted by the Chronicle. Out of these three fatalities, two involved vehicles making left turns directly into the path of the motorcyclists.

  • April 3: Scott Beland, 64, from White Plains, lost his life at the intersection of Berry Road and Bunker Hill Road when a car that allegedly ran a red light struck his Harley-Davidson. The driver fled the scene.
  • Early May: Patrick Murphy Jr., 36, of Waldorf, was killed at MD 228 and Mill Hill Road after a Ford Explorer failed to yield during a left turn from westbound MD 228, resulting in a collision with his motorcycle, according to police reports.
  • October 29: Michael Alexander Jr., age 36, from Bryans Road, was involved in a fatal incident at MD 228 and Greenwood Drive.

In September, a motorcycle safety survey conducted by a personal injury law firm identified the Berry Road and Bunker Hill Road intersection as the second most dangerous junction for motorcyclists in Maryland, highlighting concerns regarding drivers who fail to adequately assess the speed of oncoming motorcycles when making left turns.

Statewide, motorcyclists continue to face significant risks despite an overall decrease in roadway fatalities. By early September, Maryland had recorded 55 motorcyclist deaths, which surpassed the total of 49 deaths throughout all of 2025, even as overall vehicle fatalities dropped by 13% compared to the previous year, reported the Chronicle.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the crash on October 29 to contact Sgt. Justin Zimmerman at 301-392-1231.
