For Immediate Release: Wednesday, March 25, 2026
Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) is excited to announce the upcoming event “Many Languages, One Library: Celebrating Hindi,” which will showcase a newly established collection of Hindi-language books at the Germantown Library, situated at 19840 Century Blvd. in Germantown.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, April 12, from 2–3 p.m., and marks the significant addition of over 160 Hindi-language titles for children, teens, and adults to MCPL’s World Language collection.
For 75 years, MCPL has been a vital resource for the community, offering a welcoming space that promotes equitable access to information for all residents. This expansion was made possible through the generous contributions of several local organizations, including the Balvihar Hindi School, a part of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America, the Desi Runners Desi Walkers Community, and Senior Connection of Montgomery County. Together, they supported the purchase of over 160 books to benefit Hindi-speaking families and individuals across the region.
County Executive Marc Elrich commented, “The diversity found in Montgomery County is one of our community’s strongest attributes. By adding more Hindi-language materials to our library collections, we ensure that residents from various backgrounds feel included in our libraries and have access to resources that reflect their languages and cultural experiences. We are thankful to our community partners for their invaluable support in ensuring our collections are representative of Montgomery County’s diverse population.”
The celebration will feature remarks from prominent local leaders and representatives from community organizations, culminating in the official unveiling of the new book collection. All residents are encouraged to come, explore the newly available titles, and join in honoring the diverse languages and cultures that enrich Montgomery County.
Among the invited speakers are:
- Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich
- Montgomery County Councilmember Kristin Mink, Montgomery County Council Vice President Marilyn Balcombe, and MCPL Director Darcell Graham
- Representatives from the Balvihar Hindi School, Desi Runners Desi Walkers Community, and Senior Connection of Montgomery County
