A significant house fire occurred on Saturday, October 10, in the 14600 block of Seneca Farm Lane, impacting the Darnestown and Germantown communities. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) reported damages exceeding $12 million and confirmed that five adults and three dogs have been displaced due to the incident.

According to MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire began on a rear patio under an elevated deck and quickly spread to the attic and roof of the two-story home. The intensity of the blaze led to the collapse of the entire roof, prompting firefighters to evacuate the building temporarily.

One adult was inside the house when the fire ignited but was safely rescued by a neighbor prior to the arrival of emergency services. Fortunately, the home was equipped with functioning smoke alarms and a residential sprinkler system, which may have helped mitigate the situation.

Over 65 firefighters responded to the scene, utilizing tankers to transport water since the area lacks fire hydrants. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Investigators have assessed the damage, estimating about $1.65 million in structural losses and over $11 million in damaged contents, which notably includes approximately $3 million worth of designer boots and $8 million in designer clothing.

The property was being rented, and the displaced individuals are currently seeking assistance. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with officials looking into various potential ignition sources located on the rear patio beneath the elevated deck.
