Share

A shooting incident in the northern region of Prince George’s County, Maryland, has led to the arrest of one individual and injuries to two others.

The police reported multiple instances of gunfire on Friday afternoon, with specific incidents occurring around the junction of 67th Avenue and Patterson Street in the East Riverdale neighborhood.

Both victims have been taken to a local hospital for medical attention; one is listed in critical condition, while the other is suffering from life-threatening injuries. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, but there are currently no additional suspects at large.

The Greenbelt Police Department announced via a post on X that they are collaborating with Prince George’s County police in the investigation, which is believed to have begun as an armed carjacking.

Reporter Steve Karesh from WTOP provided live updates from the scene, noting that law enforcement is looking into a vehicle that had been crashed. A crime scene investigator indicated that, while there was no trace of gunfire on or near this vehicle, it may still be relevant to the ongoing investigation.

Authorities plan to release more information from the police department later on Friday evening.

In response to the heightened police activity, nearby schools were temporarily placed on lockdown. This lockdown was lifted for most schools around 4:25 p.m.

WTOP Traffic reporter Dave Dildine noted that at least three major highways in Maryland are experiencing partial or complete closures due to police presence. These include Route 193 Greenbelt Road at Kenilworth Avenue, Route 201 Kenilworth Avenue at Campus Drive, and Route 410 Riverdale Road under the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.
