Elling Scores 100 Points as SMCM Clinches Victory in United East Championship!

St. Marys City, Md.- The St. Marys College of Maryland women’s lacrosse team achieved a remarkable victory on April 25, defeating Wilson College 24-2 at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium. This win marked the Seahawks’ fifth consecutive championship in the United East Conference tournament, solidifying their position as the top seed for the upcoming United East Conference–Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Crossover Championship.

With this latest win, St. Marys College improved its overall record to 6-10, while Wilson College fell to 8-10. The Seahawks took an early advantage, establishing an 8-0 lead before Wilson was able to score. Following a brief period where Wilson narrowed the margin to 10-2, the Seahawks closed the game with an impressive 14-0 run. This performance highlighted the depth and defensive prowess of the team in front of enthusiastic supporters from Southern Maryland.

Junior midfielder Sanne Elling from Ocean View, Delaware, reached an impressive personal milestone by netting her 100th career point with an unassisted goal in the second quarter. In total, Elling contributed five points from four goals and one assist, also recording a career-high four caused turnovers. Meanwhile, first-year attacker Sarah Fitter from Ellicott City led the charge with a career-best six goals. Additionally, junior midfielder Hope Harrison, hailing from Catonsville, achieved personal bests with six points, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

Defensively, senior captain Carsyn Smith from Crownsville was instrumental, recording five caused turnovers alongside a career-best eight ground balls. Fellow senior captain Katelin Scala of Catonsville controlled the game with a game-high six draw controls and added six points from two goals and four assists. Goalkeeper Allie Greeley from Havre de Grace made six saves, while Lilly Gunder from Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, contributed 15 minutes of shutout relief in the fourth quarter.

The Seahawks dominated the statistical sheet in this matchup. They outshot Wilson 48-16, forced 23 turnovers out of Wilson’s 26, and enjoyed a remarkable plus-12 turnover margin. St. Marys also controlled 30 of 32 ground balls contested. Draw controls were closely contested, with St. Marys edging Wilson 14-12.

This victory not only highlights the team’s strong performance this season but also signifies the program’s successful run within Southern Maryland’s collegiate athletics scene. The Seahawks will host Alfred State College, the No. 1 seed from New York, on Saturday, May 2, at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium during the crossover championship. Alfred State advanced to the finals by defeating Pittsburgh-Bradford 16-3 in the AMCC divisional final. The exact game time is yet to be announced.
