Two Teens Arrested in Germantown Giant Food Store Shooting Incident

GERMANTOWN, Md. — The Montgomery County Police have reported that two teenagers are now in custody following a shooting incident at a Giant Food store in Germantown.

19-year-old Marcus Isaiah Jovon Braithwaite and 16-year-old Demba Tandia are both facing charges of attempted murder.

On March 20 at 8:40 p.m., Braithwaite and Tandia entered the Giant Food store located on Leaman Farm Road.

Shortly after, an unidentified victim entered the store and was pursued by both Braithwaite and Tandia while armed.

As they reached the front of the store, one of the suspects fired multiple shots at the victim, putting shoppers and employees at risk.

Following the gunfire, both Braithwaite and Tandia fled the scene.

The victim sustained several non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to police reports.

Police quickly identified Braithwaite and Tandia as the suspects and secured arrest warrants on March 21.

Authorities reported that Tandia was apprehended on March 25 in Sterling, Virginia, and is being charged as an adult. He is currently awaiting extradition to Montgomery County.

Braithwaite was arrested on March 31 in Germantown and is now being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit while awaiting a bond hearing.

In addition to attempted first-degree murder, both suspects face charges of first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and the use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
