Water Town Celebrates Major Milestone for Local Hero Anne Arundel County’s Borchelt

Share

Germantown’s very own Luke Borchelt, an emerging country artist, has unveiled his debut album, *Water Town*, today under MDDN Records. Drawing inspiration from his childhood in a coastal community by the Chesapeake Bay, the album features ten tracks that vividly represent the rhythms of small-town living, familial connections, and the poignant remnants of relationships that shape a person’s life journey.

Hailing from Anne Arundel County, Borchelt worked alongside an accomplished team of songwriters and producers known for their collaborations with top country artists. Noteworthy collaborators include Andrew Baylis, who has worked with Jelly Roll, as well as Jace Logan Jennings and Matt McGinn, who has penned songs for Luke Combs. The album artfully merges traditional country storytelling with elements from DMV hip-hop and gospel music, resulting in a sound that embodies regional authenticity while embracing broader musical influences.

The title of the album and its overarching themes are deeply rooted in Borchelt’s affinity for water. He refers to this project as an opportunity for listeners to immerse themselves in the life of what he calls “crab country,” where community values such as honesty, loyalty, and a warm welcome for newcomers thrive. The tracks paint everyday scenes, from above-ground pools to flowing rivers, while delving into deeper reflections on family and the impacts of relationships within the community.

Borchelt’s journey to releasing this album has been marked by significant progress within the Maryland music landscape and beyond. He performed the National Anthem at a Baltimore Orioles game at Camden Yards, a moment he cherishes as a profound connection to his roots. Additionally, he graced the stage at the Washington Commanders’ NFL Draft Party and collaborated with Be The People. Previous performances include appearances alongside Shaboozey and participation in Ocean City’s Country Calling festival, all of which have helped elevate his visibility while keeping him connected to Maryland audiences.

With the release of *Water Town*, Borchelt is also seeking to broaden his audience. On July 1, he will headline at Seacrets in Ocean City, one of his favorite venues, marking an enthusiastic home-state kick-off before embarking on “The Water Town Tour” starting August 1 in Waco, Texas. This tour consists of 17 dates, taking him across the United States and into Canada, with tickets available on his website.

The album’s diverse tracklist showcases its blend of personal narratives and local color. Highlights include titles such as “Water Town,” “Ocean City,” “Fishnets,” and “Swimming,” which conjure vivid images of life along the Bay and the coastal areas of Maryland. Meanwhile, songs like “Red Sky,” “Stay Warm,” and “NASCAR” delve into broader emotional themes, ranging from introspection to lively, energetic moments.

For listeners in Southern Maryland, where the Chesapeake Bay plays a crucial role in shaping daily lives, Borchelt’s music offers a relatable perspective. Communities across Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties share many of the same waterfront traditions and close connections he captures in his songwriting. His work demonstrates the ways in which these experiences resonate in country music without necessitating a move to Nashville.

Borchelt, who began teaching himself guitar at the age of 23, has a musically rich background that includes gospel choir participation and exposure to DMV hip-hop. This diverse upbringing informs the album’s willingness to blend various storytelling traditions with the rhythmic and cultural elements of the region he proudly calls home. Consequently, his debut album establishes him as an artist who deftly draws from multiple influences while remaining firmly grounded in Maryland.

The release of *Water Town* follows Borchelt’s growing presence in the music industry, building on his earlier project, *Every Rain*, released through Droptine Recordings and Grey Area Records with Sony Music Publishing. This new album expands his sonic range while maintaining its roots in the people and places that continually shape his songwriting.

As Borchelt embarks on a national tour, *Water Town* serves both as a personal statement and an introduction to potential new fans. For local Maryland supporters who have witnessed his evolution through live performances, this album encapsulates the stories and sounds that have defined the start of his career. The upcoming headline show in Ocean City, along with the subsequent tour dates, will allow audiences to experience his music live in environments that reflect the album’s essence.

In essence, *Water Town* represents a vivid portrayal of a Maryland artist striving to transform lived experiences into song. Its focus on hometown memories, familial connections, and the significance of place resonates deeply in a state where the Chesapeake Bay continues to play a vital role in the identity of many residents. With the support of local fans and a promising tour on the horizon, Borchelt’s debut signifies a meaningful advancement in a career that is still unfolding.
