Share

Authorities are currently looking into a series of car rallies in the D.C. metropolitan area, where reports indicate that as many as 300 individuals participated in these “illegal” events.

Police departments in both Maryland and Virginia are actively investigating a number of car rallies in the D.C. vicinity, with estimates suggesting crowds reaching up to 300 attendees at these “illegal” gatherings.

According to Maryland State Police, law enforcement began dispersing these gatherings late Saturday night around 10 p.m. and continued their efforts until 4 a.m. on Sunday morning.

During these events, participants engaged in activities such as “exhibition driving, disorderly conduct, and blocking roadways.”

In a separate report, Fairfax County police indicated that they received calls regarding “reckless driving” near the intersection of Dolly Madison Boulevard and Georgetown Pike in McLean shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered around 15 vehicles involved in what was being referred to as a “car meetup.”

Katie Watts, a public information officer with the Fairfax County Police Department, noted that the Fairfax 1 police helicopter was also dispatched to the scene, although the vehicles had already turned back toward Maryland by that time. She mentioned that the group had spent about an hour in Virginia.

During their time in Maryland, Watts reported that the group abandoned a stolen car that was traced back to an owner in Baltimore. The investigation into the stolen vehicle is ongoing, and as of now, no arrests have been made regarding this case.

The Maryland State Police confirmed they made two arrests connected to the car rally in Camp Springs, including 19-year-old Jossel Joan Maldonado Sanabria from Fayetteville, North Carolina, and a 17-year-old passenger from Falls Church, Virginia.

Both individuals are facing charges for possession of a loaded firearm and have been taken to the Prince George’s County Detention Center for processing, as stated by Maryland State Police.

The Maryland Car Rally Task Force reported that they responded to rallies occurring at several specific locations, including:

  • 15606 Emerald Way in Bowie
  • 6210 Allentown Road in Camp Springs
  • 8582 Fenton Street in Silver Spring
  • 9500 Marlboro Pike in Upper Marlboro
  • 6050 Fallard Drive in Upper Marlboro
  • 7705 Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase
  • 2600 Marble Court in Forestville
  • 1415 Magellan Road in Hanover

The Maryland Car Rally Task Force consists of the Maryland State Police, along with law enforcement agencies from Prince George’s, Montgomery, Howard, and Baltimore counties, as well as Baltimore City and the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.
