Man Sentenced for Attempted Rape of Johns Hopkins University Student: What You Need to Know

BALTIMORE — A Baltimore resident, Raymond Lunn, was found guilty of attempted rape on Friday, linked to an incident involving a Johns Hopkins University student that took place in October 2025.

A representative from the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office confirmed that Lunn, aged 32, was convicted of attempted second-degree rape.

The Baltimore County Police apprehended Lunn on October 21 in the 8100 block of Harford Road following the reported assault, which occurred on October 18 in the 3100 block of Wyman Park Drive.

According to court documents, the victim, a 19-year-old female student, informed a campus security guard that she had been attacked.

She recounted that as she navigated through the quads, Lunn approached her under the pretense of asking for directions to exit the campus. After providing him the information, he walked away.

However, moments later, as she was near Clark Hall, Lunn attacked her from behind, encircling her in a “bear hug.”

Charging documents reveal that he forcefully pinned her to the ground behind a bench in the quad and began to remove her clothing but ceased his actions upon hearing footsteps from nearby individuals and subsequently fled the scene.

Surveillance cameras captured Lunn shadowing the victim as she moved across campus, frequently hiding behind bushes.

Authorities have identified Lunn as a repeat violent offender with a significant criminal record that includes numerous prison sentences. His previous convictions encompass attempted rape, armed robbery, kidnapping, assault, and other charges.

Furthermore, police report that Lunn is a registered sex offender.

Following the verdict, State’s Attorney Ivan Bates issued a statement highlighting the gravity of the case:

“The conviction of Raymond Lunn for the Attempted Second-Degree Rape of a Johns Hopkins University student underscores the extraordinary bravery and resilience displayed by this survivor.

“It takes immense strength to come forward after such a traumatic experience. Testifying in open court while confronting one’s attacker is no small feat. Thanks to this survivor’s decision to speak out and trust the justice system, a dangerous individual has been brought to justice. Her courage has not only resulted in this conviction but also contributed to the safety of her campus and our community.”
