Join the Pawsome Mega Adoption Event in Towson: Local Animal Shelters Unite for a Cause!

Local animal shelters are launching a special initiative to find permanent homes for their furry residents during the upcoming Find Your Lucky Charm mega adoption event.

This much-anticipated event is scheduled for Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will take place at Towson Place Shopping Center, located at 1238 Putty Hill Ave., in the former Walmart space. Kimco Realty generously donated the venue for this cause.

Sponsored by Petco Love, the event is organized by the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS), which is recognized as Maryland’s largest open admission shelter.

BARCS operates within the Baltimore City area, taking in approximately 12,000 animals annually, which presents both opportunities and challenges for their staff.

Bailey Deacon, BARCS’ chief philanthropy and communications officer, emphasized the importance of their mission. “We are an open admission shelter, which means that whenever someone from Baltimore City needs support for an animal, we are that resource and we never turn animals away. We can’t turn animals away,” Deacon stated.

In addition to BARCS, several other organizations are joining forces for this event, including the Maryland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Maryland SPCA), Baltimore County Animal Services, Humane Society of Carroll County, and Humane Society of Harford County.

Katie Flory, community care and advocacy director at Maryland SPCA, noted the dual benefits of the event. “This event is exceptional not only because we can find homes for many animals and gather people at one time, but it also boosts the visibility of all our shelters,” Flory remarked.

To adopt, participants must present a valid photo ID, proof of their current address, and must be at least 18 years old. Importantly, adopters should not bring their own pets to the venue.

While each participating shelter may have its own adoption procedures, all fees will be waived for this event. Deacon explained that they want adopters’ funds to be directed towards caring for the new pets they bring home.

Additionally, items such as cat carriers, leashes, and collars will be available for purchase, and donations will continue to be welcomed.

Flory indicated that attendees can expect “over 100 to 150 animals” available for adoption, with a range including not just the usual dogs and cats, but potentially rabbits or turtles, depending on the current inventory of the rescues involved.

This event is open not only to those looking to adopt but also to individuals interested in learning more about animal welfare, opportunities to volunteer, or fostering pets.

The Find Your Lucky Charm mega adoption event will take place on March 15 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Towson Place Shopping Center, located at 1238 Putty Hill Ave., in the space that was previously occupied by Walmart. The venue is kindly provided by Kimco Reality.
