Firefighter Hurt Battling Large Garage Fire in Germantown’s Non-Hydrant Area

Share

Germantown, MD — A Montgomery County firefighter was injured Tuesday while crews worked to extinguish a large garage fire in a non-hydrant area of Germantown, according to fire officials.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to reports of a garage fire in the 11000 block of Brink Road near Wildcat Road. Officials say the lack of nearby fire hydrants created additional challenges, requiring firefighters to shuttle water to the scene using tanker trucks.

The fire quickly extended from the garage into the main home, prompting a major emergency response. Nearly 10 fire engines, five ladder trucks, a heavy rescue unit, six water tankers, and multiple EMS units were dispatched to contain the blaze.

During suppression efforts, one firefighter sustained injuries and was transported by emergency medical personnel. The injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and the firefighter is expected to recover.

No residents were hurt, but two adults, two children, and several pets were displaced as a result of the fire. Fire officials have not yet released the cause, and the incident remains under investigation.

Non-hydrant areas present unique risks during fire emergencies, often requiring additional manpower and equipment to maintain a steady water supply. Fire officials continue to remind residents to ensure working smoke alarms are installed throughout their homes.
