Wheaton, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Board alongside the Montgomery County Planning Department, both operating under the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), has released its event calendar for September 2026. This calendar features a variety of meetings and activities open to public engagement.
Residents are encouraged to take part in Planning Board meetings through various means. Options include in-person testimony, virtual testimony, telephone participation, or submitting written comments via email on specific agenda items to mcp-chair@mncppc-mc.org by 12 noon two business days prior to each meeting. Late submissions will not be recorded. For those requiring accessibility accommodations, please reach out ahead of time. Community members can attend these meetings in person, watch them live or on-demand, and listen via telephone. Individual agendas are typically published 10 days before the meetings, while agenda details for the Historic Preservation Commission can be found on their website.
The list of events below offers further details and is subject to change. Please note that Montgomery Planning and Planning Board offices will be closed on September 7 in observance of Labor Day.
September Calendar of Events and Meetings
September 8 – The hybrid meeting of the Development Review Committee (DRC) will take place. Community members are welcome to participate in person at the M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Third Floor, Conference Room #3-202, Wheaton, MD 20902) or online by accessing the live video stream. This meeting is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The DRC consists of an inter-agency task force that includes representatives from Montgomery Planning, the State Highway Administration, various county departments like Permitting Services, Environmental Protection, and Transportation, as well as utility companies such as WSSC and PEPCO. These meetings occur twice monthly, providing a platform for DRC members to review development applications and engage with applicants.
September 9 – The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will convene in-person at the M-NCPPC Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD 20902). A virtual participation option will also be available. Individuals wishing to testify must register by 9 a.m. the day prior to the hearing. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.
September 10 – The Planning Board will hold its meeting in-person at M-NCPPC Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD 20902) as well as online. A public hearing regarding the Friendship Heights Sector Plan is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., offering both in-person and virtual testimony.
September 12 – Montgomery Planning staff will participate in the Stay Local Saturday event at The Clarksburg Yard/Clarksburg Church (22820 Frederick Road, Clarksburg, MD 20871) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where they will provide community information about the Clarksburg to Montgomery Village Transportation Study.
September 14 – The Planning Board will conduct a public hearing for the Friendship Heights Sector Plan in-person at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center (4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814) and online starting at 4 p.m. In this session, only in-person testimony will be accepted.
September 17 – A Planning Board meeting is scheduled to take place in-person at M-NCPPC Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD 20902) with the option to join online as well.
September 17 – Montgomery Planning staff will have a presence at the Wheaton Farmers Market (Evans Neighborhood Park, 2001 Evans Parkway, Wheaton, MD 20902) from 2 to 6 p.m., where they will share insights about The Wheaton Plan: A Georgia Avenue Community Plan with attendees.
September 22 – Another hybrid meeting of the Development Review Committee (DRC) is scheduled. September 22 – Montgomery Planning will also host a guided walkshop as well as a facilitated discussion on The Wheaton Plan: A Georgia Avenue Community Plan. This event is set to occur from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. starting at Wheaton Metro Station West Entrance (facing the bus bay) (11170 Georgia Avenue, Wheaton, MD 20902). Attendees will explore crucial topics and community priorities such as transportation, housing, small businesses, local amenities, and public spaces, embarking on six stops over a distance of 1.08 miles.
September 23 – The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will gather in-person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD 20902), with a virtual attendance option available. Individuals wishing to speak must register ahead of time by 9 a.m. the day before the hearing. The meeting will commence at 7 p.m.
September 24 – A Planning Board meeting is scheduled to occur in-person at M-NCPPC Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD 20902) and will also be available online.
