The Planning Board will take a break in August; meetings for the Historic Preservation Commission and Development Review Committee will continue
Wheaton, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Montgomery County Planning Department, both under the umbrella of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), have released their schedule of events and meetings for August 2026.
During the month of August, the Planning Board will be on recess, with regular weekly meetings set to resume on September 10. Residents can access recordings of previous Planning Board meetings on demand.

August Calendar of Events and Meetings
August 3 – Signups for public testimony regarding the Friendship Heights Sector Plan will open. The public hearings are scheduled for September 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the Planning Board Auditorium, located on the second floor of M-NCPPC’s Wheaton headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Wheaton, MD 20902), and on September 14 at 4 p.m. at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center (4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814). In-person testimony will be accepted on both days; however, virtual testimony will only be allowed on September 10. Residents who wish to attend without giving testimony do not need to register.
August 11 – The Development Review Committee (DRC) will hold a hybrid meeting. Community members can attend in person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Third Floor, Conference Room #3-202, Wheaton, MD 20902) or watch the meeting online via the DRC live video stream or on-demand. This session is set to occur from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The DRC consists of an inter-agency group that includes representatives from Montgomery Planning, the State Highway Administration, and various county departments, including Permitting Services, Environmental Protection, and Transportation, as well as utilities such as WSSC and PEPCO. These meetings are held bi-monthly, enabling DRC members to discuss development applications with their applicants.
August 18 – The Planning Board is scheduled to participate in a walking tour of the Friendship Heights Sector Plan at 9:30 a.m. This tour precedes the public hearings and is free for any members of the public who wish to attend and observe. The agenda and route will be made available on the Planning Board’s website by August 4.
August 19 – The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will convene in person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD 20902), with a virtual option also available. Those wishing to testify on agenda items should sign up by 9 a.m. the day prior to the meeting, which will commence at 7 p.m.
August 25 – Another hybrid meeting of the Development Review Committee (DRC) will take place. The community is welcome to participate in person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Third Floor, Conference Room #3-202, Wheaton, MD 20902) or online through the DRC live video stream or on-demand. This meeting will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
August 29 – The team behind The Wheaton Plan: A Georgia Avenue Community Plan invites residents to participate in a community bike ride to explore the proposed bike facilities and existing projects in Wheaton. A 3-mile family-friendly route and a 7-mile full route will be available. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets. The planning session will convene at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive) at 9 a.m., with the ride commencing at 9:30 a.m. RSVP for the Wheaton Plan Bike Ride.
