The Planning Board will take a break in August; Historic Preservation Commission and Development Review Committee meetings will still be held
Wheaton, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Board and the Montgomery County Planning Department, both operating under The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), have released their calendar of events and meetings for August 2026.
During the month of August, the Planning Board will be on recess but will reconvene for weekly meetings starting September 10. Residents can catch up on previous Planning Board sessions by viewing them on demand.

August Calendar of Events and Meetings
August 3 – Signups for testimony related to the Friendship Heights Sector Plan public hearings are now open. These hearings will take place on September 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the Planning Board Auditorium on the second floor of M-NCPPC’s Wheaton headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Wheaton, MD 20902) and on September 14 at 4 p.m. at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center (4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814). Individuals wishing to provide testimony in person can do so on both dates, while virtual testimony will be accepted only on September 10. Attendance without testimony does not require prior registration.
August 11 – The Development Review Committee (DRC) will convene in a hybrid format. The public is welcome to join in person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Third Floor, Conference Room #3-202, Wheaton, MD 20902) or participate online by watching the live video stream or accessing it on-demand. This meeting is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The DRC is an inter-agency team consisting of members from Montgomery Planning, the State Highway Administration, and the county’s departments of Permitting Services, Environmental Protection, and Transportation, as well as utility providers such as WSSC and PEPCO. These meetings occur bi-monthly to discuss development applications with those involved.
August 18 – Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the Planning Board will participate in a walking tour of the Friendship Heights Sector Plan as a precursor to the planned public hearings. This event is free and open to the public to attend and observe. The agenda and route will be updated on the Planning Board’s website on August 4.
August 19 – The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will hold a meeting in person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Second Floor Auditorium, Wheaton, MD 20902), with an option for virtual attendance. To testify on an agenda item, please sign up by 9 a.m. the day before the hearing. The meeting is set to commence at 7 p.m.
August 25 – The Development Review Committee (DRC) will again hold a hybrid meeting. Community members can attend in person at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive, Third Floor, Conference Room #3-202, Wheaton, MD 20902) or watch online via the DRC live video stream or on-demand. This meeting will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
August 29 – The Wheaton Plan: A Georgia Avenue Community Plan team is inviting the public to participate in a bike ride to explore proposed bike facilities and existing projects in Wheaton. The ride will feature both a 3-mile family-friendly route and a 7-mile full route. Participants should bring their bicycles and helmets. The meeting point for the tour will be at M-NCPPC’s Wheaton Headquarters (2425 Reedie Drive) at 9 a.m., with the ride commencing at 9:30 a.m. RSVP for the Wheaton Plan Bike Ride.
