With pleasant, cool, and dry weather expected, residents are encouraged to shake off the winter blues and join in the festivities of the Flower Mart and the Kinetic Sculpture Race. The Baltimore City Department of Transportation has issued a report detailing the traffic modifications for both the Flower Mart and the Kinetic Sculpture Race. The Flower Mart will be held in Mount Vernon on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, with traffic changes commencing on Thursday, April 30. Meanwhile, the Kinetic Sculpture Race, which starts and concludes at the American Visionary Arts Museum (AVAM), will circulate through downtown Baltimore on Saturday, May 2. Modifications for traffic related to this event will also start on April 30.

FLOWER MART TRAFFIC INFORMATION

RESTRICTED TRAFFIC:

  • From Thursday, April 30, 9 a.m. to Saturday, May 2, 11:59 p.m.
    • Mount Vernon Place (both eastbound and westbound) between Cathedral and St. Paul streets
    • Charles Street from Centre to Madison streets
  • From Friday, May 1, 9 a.m. to Saturday, May 2, 11:59 p.m.
    • Madison Street from St. Paul to Cathedral streets
    • Charles Street from Madison to Read streets

KINETIC SCULPTURE RACE TRAFFIC INFORMATION

The Kinetic Sculpture Race is renowned for its whimsical nature, beginning and ending at AVAM located on Covington Street. Participants will navigate a 15-mile course using unique, self-made contraptions, showcasing Baltimore’s creativity and spirit.

RESTRICTED TRAFFIC:

  • From Thursday, April 30, 9 a.m. to Saturday, May 2, 6 p.m.
    • Covington Street between Key Highway and Cross Street, accompanied by detours and parking restrictions.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS:

  • On Saturday, May 2, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Parking will be prohibited on the south side of Key Highway from Battery Avenue to Covington Street, from Williams Street to Light Street, and from Boston Street, Aliceanna Street to East Avenue.
    • Additionally, parking will be restricted on Covington Street between Key Highway and Cross Street starting Thursday, April 30 at 7 a.m.

In light of these events, motorists should be aware that temporary traffic stops will be implemented to ensure participant safety. Transportation Enforcement Officers and Baltimore City Police will be stationed along the race route to assist with managing traffic. Drivers are advised to anticipate delays and to adjust their travel plans accordingly on race day.

As these festivities unfold in the city, strict enforcement of parking restrictions around the events will be in place. Motorists are urged to adhere to posted parking regulations, remain vigilant for pedestrians, and consider alternative routes to avoid potential delays.
