Terry Thompson is a self-taught artist hailing from Chicago, Illinois, and currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to being a notable DJ and producer, he has released tracks through the UK-based record label, Defected. In the 1980s, he transformed nightclub scenes with his photo-montages and collage artwork. His career includes organizing numerous events, particularly during the renowned Winter Music Conference in Miami. In 1990, after a successful stint in the Army, he moved to downtown Baltimore, where he started showcasing his art from his loft and eventually expanded into local exhibitions while continuing to DJ and navigate corporate life. His artistic beginnings involved creating figurative collages and paintings deeply influenced by the works of Romare Bearden, Picasso, Miro, Modigliani, and his close friend, Spanish artist Salvador Bru. Today, Thompson boasts a distinctive artistic language characterized by a unique combination of colors, shapes, and forms that draw inspiration from dance culture, fashion, design, dreamlike landscapes, and experimental imagery.
Thompson previously served as Artist-in-Residence at the School 33 Art Center from 1999 to 2004 and has participated in numerous exhibitions, including Bianco e Nero at YART Gallery Baltimore (2019), Post Cards from the Edge at Bortolami Gallery (2019) in New York, and several others across various prestigious galleries in both New York and Europe. He holds a Master of Science degree in Administration from Central Michigan University.
