Renowned actress Jane Lynch is gearing up to entertain audiences in Montgomery County, Maryland, during the final weekend of November with what she refers to as a “musical Christmas extravaganza.”
Spreading holiday cheer is merely one aspect of Lynch’s diverse skill set. Throughout her illustrious career, she has excelled in various fields, including television, film, Broadway, live performance, game shows, voice acting, writing, and playwriting.
On November 29, “A Swingin’ Little Christmas” will take the stage at the Music Center at Strathmore, a venue that Lynch holds in high esteem.
In a recent interview with WTOP, Lynch shared, “I believe it’s the most stunning theater we’ve ever performed in, and the staff is exceptionally friendly.”
Regarding her upcoming performance, Lynch revealed that the show will feature “familiar Christmas classics presented in the charming style of the late ’50s and early ’60s, reminiscent of Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams.”
Lynch and her ensemble have been presenting iterations of this show for a decade, following the release of their Christmas album, “Swingin’ Little Christmas,” in 2016.
This marks the second consecutive year that the festive performance will be held at the Strathmore.
“Expect to tap your toes and feel a heartwarming sense of love; we are eagerly looking forward to our return,” Lynch expressed.
With a career spanning over 35 years, Lynch has gained recognition for memorable roles in films like “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “Best in Show,” as well as television series like “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Only Murders in the Building.”
She is perhaps best known for her iconic portrayal of cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on the hit series “Glee,” which aired from 2009 to 2015, earning her numerous accolades, including a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe.
At Strathmore, Lynch will be joined by her friends Kate Flannery, Tim Davis, and The Tony Guerrero Quintet.
Flannery, recognized for her role as Meredith Palmer in “The Office,” has a long-standing friendship with Lynch. “She’s been a dear friend for ages, and we’ve shared countless musical moments together,” Lynch shared. “Kate Flannery brings so much energy!”
Tim Davis, who was the vocal arranger for “Glee,” has also crafted the vocal arrangements for the Christmas show.
“We perform beautifully harmonized three-part vocal arrangements,” Lynch noted. “Musically, it’s an absolute pleasure, and there’s an abundance of humor and playful antics throughout the show.”
When discussing the music, Lynch praised The Tony Guerrero Quintet, stating, “Their sound is reminiscent of a classic ‘big band,’ showcasing their exceptional talent.”
The Strathmore will serve as the first stop on a 14-date tour, culminating in Santa Monica, California, on December 17, which is near Lynch’s home in Los Angeles.
“This is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. It’s the highlight of my year, and I can confidently speak for the whole team by saying we look forward to this tradition every year. We’re thrilled to start at Strathmore, a truly wonderful venue with an amazing audience,” Lynch explained to WTOP. “The crowd was delightful last year as well.”
Limited tickets can be purchased on Strathmore’s website. You can also find the “Swingin’ Little Christmas” album available on Amazon and iTunes.
