VOICES Series for Lent 2026
Wednesday, February 25: Dr. Heidi Schreiber-Pan, Ph.D., 7-8:30 p.m.
Rewilding the Human Psyche
Come early for a meet-and-greet at 6:30 p.m. before the presentation at 7:00 p.m.
In today’s fast-paced society, where productivity and constant stimulation reign supreme, many individuals experience a shared sense of disconnect—from their bodies, from each other, and from the vibrant world that surrounds us. This upcoming talk serves as an invitation to acknowledge what has been lost and to envision what can be reclaimed.
Drawing from her personal experiences, extensive grief support work, and the principles of nature-based psychology, Dr. Heidi Schreiber-Pan examines how our human nervous systems are profoundly influenced by our relationships—especially our connections with the natural environment. Through thoughtful reflections on experiences such as walking, mindfulness, the changing seasons, and simple outdoor encounters, we will explore the idea that our sense of belonging extends beyond the social sphere; it is intrinsically ecological. Moreover, “quiet joy” can serve as a healing tool, revealing a vibrant, enduring presence that flourishes when we slow down and reconnect with the life around us.
You don’t have to identify as an “outdoor enthusiast” to find value in this event. This evening will provide you with accessible concepts and practices that can easily be integrated into your everyday routines—whether you find solace in a forest trail, a city park, a backyard, or simply a solitary tree in your neighborhood. The talk will commence at 7 p.m., following the optional meet-and-greet starting at 6:30 p.m. You can expect to leave with:
- A renewed perspective on how nature aids in emotional regulation and fosters resilience
- A gentle framework for rediscovering feelings of belonging and significance in your daily existence
- Practical techniques (such as walking, mindfulness, and seasonal awareness) that you can implement immediately
- The language to navigate the interconnected feelings of grief and joy without the need to suppress either one
Dr. Heidi Schreiber-Pan, a renowned psychotherapist, author, and speaker, specializes in fostering resilience, addressing anxiety, and combatting burnout. She has previously served as a faculty member at Loyola University Maryland, where she effectively integrated neuroscience and nature-based therapeutic practices into both her clinical training and corporate wellness initiatives. Dr. Schreiber-Pan is the author of Taming the Anxious Mind and is set to release a new book titled The Outside Within: Nature’s Healing Power Unveiled in April.
VOICES, the Redeemer Speaker Series, seeks to present contemporary thinkers who challenge and inspire us. These speakers, including artists, authors, and changemakers, possess the daring to hold both the beauty and the sorrow present in our world and find wonder in both developments.
Please join us on Wednesday evenings during Lent for a simple brown bag supper at 6:00 p.m. in the parish hall. Following this, we will convene in the church at 7:00 p.m. to listen to an exciting lineup of speakers, each sharing their narratives and guiding us to discover deeper meaning in our own stories.
