GERMANTOWN, MD — A 19-year-old man from Boyds has been charged in connection with a fatal rollover collision that killed a Germantown woman last summer, according to Montgomery County Police.
Fatal July Crash at Busy Germantown Intersection
The crash occurred around 10:35 p.m. on July 21, 2025, at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Mateny Road. Authorities say Mary Elizabeth Moody, a resident of Germantown, was driving her Subaru and attempting to turn left onto eastbound Mateny Road when her vehicle was struck by a northbound Mazda driven by 19-year-old Brody Richardson of Boyds.
The force of the impact caused Moody’s vehicle to roll over, and she was ejected from the car. Despite efforts by first responders, Moody was pronounced dead at the scene. Richardson survived and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Police Say Impairment, Speed Contributed
Investigators with the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit determined that Richardson was traveling at approximately 94 mph in a 55 mph zone just before the crash. Police also say that alcohol and marijuana impairment were contributing factors.
A blood sample taken while Richardson was treated at the hospital later showed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .20, well above the legal limit in Maryland. Detectives also allege he had used marijuana before getting behind the wheel.
Charges Filed and Bond Set
On January 6, 2026, Richardson surrendered to police on an outstanding warrant related to the case. He now faces multiple charges, including:
- Manslaughter by vehicle due to gross negligence
- Negligent homicide by vehicle while under the influence
- Other related offenses
Richardson was released on a $10,000 personal bond following his court appearance.
