MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A serious fire at an assisted living facility in North Kensington left one woman hospitalized on Saturday morning. The incident occurred at the Woodridge Place facility on Woodridge Avenue shortly after 8:30 a.m., according to officials from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.
Firefighters arrived to find flames emanating from the basement, where they discovered a woman who was unconscious. Emergency crews quickly rescued her and transported her to a local hospital, where she is being treated for life-threatening smoke inhalation and burn injuries.
Approximately 50 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, and fortunately, no other injuries were reported. Fire officials confirmed that the facility was equipped with functional smoke alarms, which alerted a resident who then called for help.
The cause of the fire has been labeled accidental, with several potential electrical ignition sources identified within the building. As a result of the fire, four residents have been displaced, and damages are estimated at nearly $110,000.
