SEVERNA PARK, Md — A community in Severna Park is grieving the tragic loss of a 14-year-old student following a collision at an intersection on Robinson Road. The incident has deeply affected both the school and the surrounding area.
The fatal crash claimed the life of Ryan Beales, a freshman who had recently enrolled at Severna Park High School. After the incident, he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but unfortunately passed away on Thursday evening.
The accident occurred on Wednesday night, with Ryan remaining hospitalized until his death the subsequent night.
“It was truly a heartbreaking tragedy that unfolded on Wednesday evening around 7:15 PM, when officers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a Dodge Ram pickup truck and an E-Moto style bike. The bike, which was traveling south on the BNA trail, collided broadside with the Dodge Ram that was heading east on Robinson Road,” explained Marc Limanski, a spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, many students gathered at the intersection where the accident occurred on Friday after school to hold a vigil in Ryan’s honor.
Ryan’s older sister was present at the vigil and expressed her gratitude to the community for the love and support shown to her family during this difficult time. She emphasized the importance of remembering her brother for his positive qualities.
“He had a knack for taking things apart and putting them back together, like when he assembled his own bike or built his own PC and monitor. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes, and he was always active and engaged,” said Sophie Bresnan.
Ryan’s friends echoed similar sentiments as they reflected on his character.
“Ryan was such a sweet and caring kid. If you engaged in a conversation with him, he was always there for you,” remarked Austin Machovec, a fellow freshman at Severna Park High School.
“Being around him brought joy; his presence was uplifting, and you couldn’t help but feel positivity when he was near,” added Robert Wooten, another freshman from the same school.
The principal of Severna Park High School addressed parents in a letter, informing them of the tragic incident and detailing the counseling services that the school would provide to support students and staff during this difficult time.
“The past few days have been about our school community coming together to support our children and staff as we deal with this unimaginable tragedy,” stated Bob Mosier, a spokesperson for Anne Arundel County Public Schools. He reassured that the school would continue to provide necessary resources for as long as they are needed by those affected.
