The Maryland Board of Public Works has given the green light for funding two significant park projects in Montgomery County. These initiatives include a comprehensive renovation of Fox Chapel Neighborhood Park in Germantown and enhancements to the playground at the Casey Community Center in Gaithersburg.
This funding is part of a larger allocation of over $9.3 million in grants approved by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for various outdoor recreation facilities and land conservation efforts statewide.
Montgomery County will utilize Program Open Space – Local funding to undertake a major renovation at Fox Chapel Neighborhood Park. Planned upgrades for the park, located at 19700 Frederick Rd., include the installation of a new playground, fitness equipment, sports courts, picnic shelters, a walking loop, benches, improved parking facilities, and updated signage. The park is managed by Montgomery Parks.
Additionally, funding has been secured for playground improvements at the Casey Community Center, situated at 810 S. Frederick Ave. in Gaithersburg, which features approximately 3.5 acres of outdoor space.
The Montgomery County projects were part of nearly $3.3 million in Program Open Space – Local grants approved by the Board of Public Works on September 16. Overall, the Board sanctioned more than $9.3 million in DNR grants aimed at enhancing outdoor facilities and supporting land conservation projects throughout Maryland. This includes over $5 million allocated for 12 projects through the Greenspace Equity Program, as well as funding for conservation easements and state land acquisitions.
