Major Weekend Snowstorm Alert for MD: Everything You Need to Know!

Share

This weekend, Maryland is bracing for near-record cold and substantial snowfall, with forecasts predicting up to a foot of snow in some areas, as reported by the National Weather Service.

The storm is expected to begin Saturday afternoon and persist through Sunday night, according to meteorologists.

While the specifics of the storm are still evolving, WBAL-TV anticipates 5 to 8 inches of snow on Saturday night, followed by an additional 3 to 5 inches on Sunday.

“A strong cold front will sweep through the region late Thursday into Friday, followed by another Arctic front late Friday into Saturday,” stated the Baltimore-DC office of the National Weather Service. “Temperatures are expected to be well below average, especially by Sunday. Extremely cold conditions are likely Saturday night into the following week, with lows dipping into the single digits and wind chills potentially falling below zero. We could see near-record low temperatures during this period.”

Overnight lows are projected to fall between 11 and 14 degrees from Friday through Sunday nights, according to the NWS.

While Thursday will see a relatively mild high of 48 degrees, temperatures are forecasted to drop dramatically to the low 20s from Saturday through Monday.

“The conditions are aligning for a prolonged storm that could deliver a significant amount of snow across multiple states,” noted Accuweather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.

“Cold air will persist over the weekend of January 24-25, and there is potential for a storm that could bring snow to the eastern U.S.,” added AccuWeather Meteorologist Peyton Simmers.
