Celebrating Comics, Creativity, and Community at MoComCon

The Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) is gearing up to host the much-anticipated 10th annual MoComCon on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21. This year’s event will unfold at both the Germantown Library and the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. MoComCon 2026 promises to be a free, family-oriented extravaganza dedicated to comics, storytelling, visual artistry, and community engagement.

Over the course of these two exciting days, fans and families, alongside creators and learners of all ages, will be invited to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of comics and creative media. The event will be packed with artist panels, engaging workshops, and thrilling contests. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet a variety of local and regional comic writers, illustrators, and content creators. Interactive drawing and design workshops will also be offered, alongside curated displays showcasing graphic novels and independent comics from MCPL’s extensive collections.

MoComCon 2026 kicks off from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 20, at the BlackRock Center for the Arts, located at 12901 Town Commons Drive in Germantown. The programming scheduled for Friday evening is specifically designed for teens aged 13-17 and adults aged 18 and over.

The festivities continue on Saturday, March 21, with events taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at both venues. The Germantown Library, situated at 19840 Century Blvd., will provide programming tailored for children and families, including storytelling sessions, drawing stations, and interactive comic creation activities. Meanwhile, the BlackRock Center for the Arts will offer special programming for teens and adults, featuring highlights such as the ever-popular cosplay contest.

“MoComCon has truly evolved into a remarkable event for Montgomery County,” stated Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “Our libraries have fostered a welcoming space where young people, families, artists, and long-time fans can unite around storytelling, creativity, and imagination. This gathering provides aspiring writers and artists with a platform to showcase their talents, linking teens and families to positive, inclusive, and supportive creative avenues. It also reminds us that literacy encompasses many forms, including comics, graphic novels, and visual art. I express my gratitude to Montgomery County Public Libraries, the Friends of the Library, BlackRock Center for the Arts, and all our community partners who make this event a reality.”

In addition to these exciting features, attendees can look forward to special guest appearances, artist signings, and opportunities to display their own work. A designated area will be available for local and emerging creators, offering a stage for new comic voices to present their projects and connect with fans.

Presented by Montgomery County Public Libraries, this festival also receives support from the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, BlackRock Center for the Arts, along with numerous community partners dedicated to enhancing inclusive access to the arts, literacy, and cultural experiences.
